Two Days Trip to Awash National Park

Day 1: Addis Ababa – Awash National Park

• Depart from Addis Ababa and drive east through the Ethiopian Rift Valley, heading towards Awash National Park, a vast expanse of wooded savannah, dominated by the imposing Fantale Volcano (2,007m).

• Stop at Lake Basaka, a stunning spot known for its aquatic birdlife and dramatic landscape shaped by the shifting waters of the lake.

• Arrival at Awash National Park:
  Check into your lodge. After lunch and a short rest, embark on a late afternoon game drive through the Ilala Sala Plain, located in the southern part of the park. Wildlife you may encounter includes:

  • Beisa Oryx

  • Greater and Lesser Kudu

  • Olive Baboons

  • Warthogs

  • Soemmerring’s Gazelles

  • Colobus Monkeys

• Nature Walk and Visit to Awash River Falls:
  Take a short nature walk along the Awash River, perfect for birdwatching. Visit the Awash River Falls, often described as a miniature version of Victoria Falls, particularly striking during the rainy season.

Day 2: Awash National Park – Addis Ababa

• Early Morning Game Drive:
  Experience the park at sunrise, when wildlife activity peaks, and the landscape is bathed in golden light.

• Visit to Awash River Gorge:
  Explore the Awash River Gorge, where you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of the volcanic terrain and deep canyons carved by the river over millennia.

• Stop at Sodere Hot Springs:
  On your return journey to Addis Ababa, stop at the Sodere Hot Springs, a tranquil retreat located along the Awash River, surrounded by lush vegetation. Here, you can relax and take a refreshing dip in the naturally heated pools, known for their therapeutic properties.

• Evening: Farewell Dinner
  In Addis Ababa, enjoy a farewell dinner at a traditional Ethiopian cultural restaurant, featuring live music and dance performances that showcase Ethiopia’s diverse ethnic groups.

• Departure:
  After dinner, you’ll be transferred to Addis Ababa Bole International Airport for your flight, or to your hotel if you’re staying the night.
