Itenerary
Day 1: Addis Ababa to Jinka – Tribal Encounters Begin
Morning: Fly from Addis Ababa to Jinka, located in the heart of the South Omo Valley.
En Route: Visit the Key Afer Market, a lively hub where you’ll meet members of the Benna, Hamar, and Tsemay tribes—a great introduction to the region’s cultural diversity.
Afternoon Drive: Continue to Turmi, home of the Hamer tribe, known for their elaborate hairstyles and body adornments.
Evening: Witness the traditional “Evangadi” dance performed by Hamer youth, a social ritual filled with rhythm and communal spirit.
Overnight: Lodge in Turmi
Day 2: Omorate Excursion – Return to Jinka
Morning: Take a boat across the Omo River to Omorate, where you’ll visit the Dassenech tribe, known for their adaptation to river life and distinctive customs.
Afternoon: Return to Turmi and visit a local Hamer village. If the timing aligns, experience the spectacular “Jumping of the Bulls” ceremony—a rite of passage for young men.
Later, drive back to Jinka, where you’ll visit the Ari tribe, known for their traditional pottery and sustainable farming practices.
Overnight: Resort or Hotel in Jinka
Day 3: Mago National Park – Mursi Tribe – Return to Addis Ababa
Early Morning: Head into Mago National Park, home to diverse wildlife and the famed Mursi tribe, recognized for their striking lip plates and ear ornaments.
Late Morning: Return to Jinka for your flight back to Addis Ababa.
Evening: Enjoy a Farewell Program featuring:
A traditional cultural dinner with live music and dance
Time for souvenir shopping
A brief museum visit for final insights into Ethiopia’s rich heritage
Afterwards, transfer to Bole International Airport for your international departure.
